Macaw clay lick

One of the most impressive spectacles of the Amazon, is a place known as the macaw clay lick. It is here where hundreds of parrots and macaws of at least 10 different species congregate every day to feed themselves, creating a spectacle of color and sound like no other in the natural world. Biologists have discovered that some species of macaws cover distances of up to a hundred kilometers to feed on the mineral deposits that neutralize the toxins in the fruits and nuts that form the basis of their diet.
